Senior AI Agent Engineer

About the role

Join Anthropic's Agent Foundations team to build the next generation of AI agent infrastructure. You'll design and implement core agent capabilities including tool use, multi-step reasoning, and safety mechanisms that power Claude's agentic features.

Responsibilities

• Design and build core agent infrastructure powering Claude's tool use and multi-step reasoning
• Develop novel approaches to agent safety, including monitoring and intervention systems
• Collaborate with research teams to translate agent research into production systems
• Architect scalable systems that handle millions of agent interactions daily
• Define technical standards and best practices for agent development

Requirements

• 5+ years of software engineering experience, with 2+ years focused on AI/ML systems
• Deep understanding of LLM architectures and agent design patterns
• Strong systems design skills — you've built and operated large-scale distributed systems
• Experience with Python and modern ML frameworks
• Track record of shipping complex technical projects end-to-end

Nice to have

• Published research in agent systems, tool use, or AI safety
• Experience building developer-facing APIs or SDKs
• Contributions to open-source AI/ML projects
