Senior Agent Infrastructure Engineer

About the role

Build the infrastructure that powers OpenAI's agent products. You'll work on the systems that enable agents to execute multi-step tasks reliably — from sandboxed code execution to persistent memory and tool orchestration at massive scale.

Responsibilities

• Design and build agent execution infrastructure supporting millions of concurrent sessions
• Develop sandboxed environments for safe agent code execution
• Build persistent memory and state management systems for long-running agents
• Optimize latency and reliability of tool-calling pipelines
• Define SLOs and build observability for agent infrastructure

Requirements

• 6+ years of infrastructure or backend engineering experience
• Experience building and operating large-scale distributed systems
• Strong understanding of containerization, orchestration, and sandboxing
• Proficiency in Python and at least one systems language (Go, Rust, C++)
• Experience with agent systems or complex workflow orchestration
